Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. In our club time, you can choose to participate as a competing member, or a non-competing member. We will discuss OBOB books, do bookish activities, and play book trivia. We will learn about how OBOB competitions work, create a team name, and design T-Shirts. We spend the majority of our club time playing OBOB trivia. Your goal is to read as many of the 16 books as you can, to increase your chances in trivia battles! So, your out of class work will be to read read read.

This full-year U.S. history course examines the founding and early development of the United States, from the American Revolution through the Civil War. Students explore the political ideas, conflicts, compromises, and turning points that shaped the nation’s identity.
As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, students will take a closer look at the Revolutionary era through primary sources, structured debate, and selections from Ken Burns’ documentary on the American Revolution. The course then follows the nation’s growth and challenges, including the writing of the Constitution, westward expansion, sectional conflict, and the Civil War.
Aligned with 8th grade Oregon Social Science standards for U.S. History, this course emphasizes historical inquiry, analysis of multiple perspectives, and evidence-based reasoning. Students will evaluate sources, construct thoughtful arguments, and consider how the founding principles of the United States continue to shape the nation today.
